The story
The Driskill opened in 1886 in downtown Austin, Texas, a Romanesque Revival landmark on Sixth Street built by cattle baron Jesse Driskill, who is said to have lost the hotel at the gambling table only a few years later; it is the oldest operating hotel in the city. Its haunted reputation includes the figure of Driskill himself, often accompanied by the scent of cigar smoke, a young girl said to have died chasing a ball on the grand staircase in the late 19th century, and the unsettling tale of two brides decades apart said to have died at the hotel, with guests and staff reporting moving objects, lights behaving oddly, voices and a sense of presence.
