Summersville Lake (Drowned Gad)

Summersville, WV

Summersville Lake drowned the West Virginia farm hamlet of Gad in the 1960s — its name living on, wryly, in the dam that couldn't be called 'Gad Dam'. Drawdowns bare the old roads, and lake telling keeps the hamlet's lights beneath the clearest water in the East.
