The story
USS Lexington is an Essex-class aircraft carrier that served extensively in the Second World War, surviving torpedo damage and once being erroneously reported sunk, which helped earn her the nickname the 'Blue Ghost', and went on to decades of further service, including as a training carrier, before being preserved as a museum ship in Corpus Christi, Texas. That wartime nickname has taken on added meaning given her haunted reputation. Visitors and overnight groups report a friendly young sailor, sometimes called 'Charly', who reportedly gives clear directions in the engine spaces before vanishing, along with footsteps, voices, hatches and doors moving, cold spots and figures glimpsed below decks.
