The story
The Ohio State Reformatory opened in 1886 and operated until 1990, when a federal court ordered its closure on grounds of cruel and unusual punishment. The Romanesque Revival building served as a filming location for The Shawshank Redemption in 1994, and the warden's family quarters — where the warden's wife accidentally shot herself with a concealed handgun — are consistently the most reported area. Paranormal investigators cite the administration building's upper floors, the isolation cells and the solitary-confinement block as the most active zones.
