Local Legends

Mudhouse Mansion

Lancaster, OH

Mudhouse Mansion was Ohio's most photographed haunted ruin — a gaunt 1840s-70s brick farmhouse on a hill near Lancaster, wrapped in invented legends and window-lit dread — until its owner had it demolished in 2015. It survives now only as legend, which is where it always lived.

Local Legends

Gore Orphanage

Vermilion, OH

Gore Orphanage is northern Ohio's great invented legend: a haunted road and valley near Vermilion where generations have sought a burned orphanage and its crying children. No orphanage ever burned — the tale fuses a real 1910 house fire with a vanished charity farm — but the telling thrives.
