Abandoned Places

Cape Lookout Village Historic District

Harkers Island, NC

Cape Lookout Village stands empty at the tip of North Carolina's Core Banks — keepers' houses, a lifesaving station and cottages abandoned to the National Seashore. Bankers' telling gives the village lights in dark windows and figures on the wash.
