The Santa Fe courthouse ghost belongs to a specific piece of tape: in the 1980s a security camera at the Santa Fe County courthouse recorded, in the small hours, a luminous white shape drifting across the lawn — moving, its watchers said, with no gait, casting no clear form — and the footage ran on local then national broadcasts, drawing explanations from insects on the lens and reflections to the earnestly supernatural, none settling the matter to everyone's satisfaction; officers interviewed at the time made the story better by taking it seriously. The clip made the courthouse a landmark of New Mexico's modern lore, joining a capital already dense with older telling — La Llorona along the river, the Palace of the Governors' shadows — and occasional later accounts add figures on the lawn at night and unease in the corridors, thin beside the famous tape.
