Burlington County Prison Museum

Mount Holly, NJ

An early-1800s former county jail in Mount Holly, New Jersey, designed by noted architect Robert Mills, opened in 1811 and in use until 1965, among the longest continuously operating in the country. Now a museum, it is reputedly haunted, with visitors reporting footsteps, voices and cold spots, especially around its maximum-security 'dungeon' cell.
