The story

The Mount Washington Hotel opened in 1902 at Bretton Woods, New Hampshire, a sprawling white Spanish Renaissance resort with red roofs set beneath the Presidential Range and the highest peak in the northeastern United States; in 1944 it hosted the international Bretton Woods conference that shaped the postwar monetary system. Its haunting legend centres on Carolyn Stickney, widow of original owner Joseph Stickney, who after his death remarried into European nobility and became known as a 'princess'; she is said to be seen in period dress in her former room and at the top of the stairs. Guests and staff report a sensed presence, items moving, lights behaving oddly and impressions left in the bedclothes. The resort acknowledges the story. These accounts should be presented as guest reports and folklore rather than proven phenomena. As the hotel is part of a larger group, its own official page should be confirmed before publishing.
