The story
Forepaugh's Restaurant occupies an elegant Victorian mansion built in 1870 for prominent St. Paul businessman Joseph Forepaugh, set in the historic Irvine Park neighbourhood near the Mississippi River and across from the governor's residence; long a celebrated dining destination, it closed in 2019 and reopened in 2024 after a thorough restoration. Its haunted reputation, among the best known in Minnesota, rests on local legend surrounding Molly, said to have been a young Irish maid in the household whose story ends in tragedy on the third floor, and Joseph Forepaugh himself, who died in 1892; these accounts are folklore rather than established fact and should be handled with care and without dwelling on the deaths.
