The story
Historic Forestville stands preserved within Forestville/Mystery Cave State Park in the bluff country of southeastern Minnesota — an 1850s crossroads village that thrived until the railroad passed it by, after which storekeeper Thomas Meighen came to own the entire town, running it as his private farm village until the store closed in 1910 with its stock still on the shelves; the Minnesota Historical Society now interprets the village in costume, the original goods still boxed behind the counter, while the park's other wonder, Mystery Cave, runs thirteen dark miles beneath the hills.
