Built in 1858 for politician and Underground Railroad conductor Alexander Hannah, this Italianate mansion is believed by local historians to have sheltered escaped slaves on their journey north. According to local legend, a fire broke out in the basement during one such shelter, and those who perished were buried on the grounds to avoid discovery.
