Restored as a grand hotel, the Crescent embraced its reputation as 'America's most haunted hotel': nightly ghost tours visit the morgue with its autopsy table, and telling names its figures — 'Michael', an Irish stonemason said to have fallen during construction, in room 218; 'Theodora' of room 419; a girl on the staircase; figures in Victorian dress in the gardens — while national television has investigated repeatedly.
