The story
Allen House is one of Arkansas’s better-known haunted homes, and also a sensitive, residential-style site that deserves care. The reported haunting is usually linked to the Allen family, and particularly to Ladell Allen, whose story has become central to the house’s folklore. Accounts describe apparitions, mirror sightings, unexplained noises, and the impression of a presence still tied to the rooms. The legend grows out of real family tragedy, which is worth treating seriously rather than as entertainment. The house became locally famous through repeated reports, media attention, and the way family history and ghost lore have blended over time. Unless official tours are currently offered, Allen House is best treated as exterior-only: visitors should not trespass, knock on doors, or attempt late-night visits.
